TECHNICAL TAPES FOR GROUTING

As we have already illustrated in our article "Grouting and smoothing", reinforcing the joints is a fundamental job if you want to obtain a perfect surface ready to receive the finish (paint, wallpaper or tiles).

The joint reinforcement technical tapes give mechanical resistance to the grouting, easing the tensions that are created on the joints due to the physiological micro-movements of the house, impact and mechanical stresses stimulated voluntarily, or impulses and pressures due to humidity.

There are three types of technical tapes:

• the self-adhesive mesh tape

• the micro-perforated paper tape

• the velovetro tape.

Self-adhesive mesh tape

Main characteristics are the speed of laying as opposed to the lower mechanical resistance compared to the micro-perforated paper.

It represents the simplest and fastest method to arm the joints and for this reason it is the best-selling product on the market. Composed of a braided fiberglass mesh having an adhesive side (to be placed on the slab) which allows it to adhere directly to the cardboard surface of the slabs without previously applying the putty, and an unperforated part (to be left exposed).

Ideal in the presence of any type of support (plasterboard / plasterboard, plasterboard / masonry), on the other hand it requires more complex work during the grouting phase.

Micro-perforated paper tape

Equipped with a mechanical strength superior to all other products (even 70% higher than the self-adhesive net tape), the micro-perforated paper tape also offers the best acoustic insulation results thanks to the greater continuity of the combined surfaces and the uniformity of joint that guarantees .

Main grouting method used by experts in the sector for its reliability over time, the composition of the micro-perforated paper tape is made of cellulose fiber having a rough part (to be placed on the sheet) and a smoother part (to be left exposed).

Easy to apply and to handle, it will be necessary to spread the grout on the joint and then lay the tape on it.

Also recommended for those who are not a dry construction professional and for application on corners (it is possible to flex the tape simply with your hands). Note: perfect on the plasterboard / plasterboard corners, pay attention in the plasterboard / masonry corners because the possible presence of humidity in the part of the masonry could cause detachment.

Velovetro tape (fiberglass)

Equipped with a high resistance and a very low thickness, the velovetro tape represents an excellent solution for the grouting of the not chamfered (flat) joints and therefore in the presence of cut or side-by-side slabs on the 1.20 m side.

The velovetro tape is mainly used by expert operators because it makes the grouting much simpler and aesthetically better than other types of tapes with higher thickness, on the other hand it requires a lot of care in laying.
