Stone coverings: questions and answers

Below is a list of questions (many of which have come from our readers) that usually arise spontaneously when deciding whether to make a stone cladding.

ATTENTION:

The advice to get an optimal job is to contact a highly specialized company that can help you.

1. Can a stone cladding be mounted on plasterboard?

Answer: Of course. Care must be taken in following the manufacturer's instructions and following the assembly systems indicated. Including the initial stages of surface treatment. The weight of the coating to be applied must also be carefully evaluated and in the case of heavy panels proceed to strengthen the plasterboard wall structure by inserting other uprights to support those already present and anchor the plasterboard panels more scrupulously, increasing the number screws to be inserted in them.

2. How long does it take to make a stone cladding?

Answer: It depends on what result you want to achieve and how many difficulties are present in the wall itself (electrical outlets, spotlights, shelves, ...). In general, assembly is quick. The part that requires more patience is certainly the drying time of the adhesives.

3. What to do in case of electrical outlets already on the wall?

Answer: in the study phase of the cladding and in the assembly scheme that is to be defined, simply leave the part empty or make holes in the cladding so that the electrical outlet remains free and therefore not covered. Subsequently, with the covering assembled, the external template of the socket will be fixed with extended anchors that grip directly on the wall.

4. Is it possible to apply the stone cladding on already painted walls?

Answer: Absolutely not. It is strongly discouraged because the paint acts as a film and with the weight of the coating it is possible that it will come off. It is advisable to sand the paint, treat the wall and then proceed with the assembly of the coating.

5. I have already mounted the covering but I want to insert LED spotlights in the upper part. How can I do?

Answer: Attention! It is always necessary to calculate the possibility of inserting lighting into the covering. This is why in the initial phase a trace is created in the wall to bring the electric wires up and be ready for any "illuminating" idea that may come later.

In this case, when the coating is complete, everything is much more difficult and the advice is to look for alternative "roads" and to get the wires from other walls.

6. Is it true that stone coverings are difficult to clean?

Answer: Unfortunately yes. Especially those that have an irregular and jagged surface. However, thanks to an electrostatic cloth or a latest generation vacuum cleaner you can safely keep the surfaces clean.
