More and more architects envisage the use of dry building also in the realization of furnishing elements and so

they can be seen very often in the magazines or in the show-rooms of furnishings in plasterboard niches, which, by creating plays of depth, break the standard lines of the walls and enrich the charm of the rooms, giving dynamism and refinement. If you then paint the plasterboard niche in a shade different from that of the surrounding walls, you can create a beautiful color game of empty and full.

Once the walls were much deeper and it was easy to make a recess in the wall to allow the housing of a piece of furniture or a small bookcase, now, in today's homes, an alternative is to create the niche with plasterboard.

Niche to create in 10 moves

To create a niche that is perfectly integrated into the wall, it will be necessary to proceed precisely using good quality raw materials and specific equipment.

It will be possible to realize the niche both inside an existing plasterboard wall that creates it on a wall.

ON EXISTING COUNTERSET:

1. Draw the project on the plasterboard wall with a pencil to define the lines of the niche we would like to obtain.

2. Cut the plasterboard with a jigsaw following the line drawn on the wall after verifying that it is leveled with the help of a magnetic level with vials.

3. With a professional meter take the measurements of the inner walls and the upper part and bring them back to the plasterboard slabs so as to create rectangles that will then be applied on each side of the niche.

Note: calculate both the height of the niche and the depth.

4. Now drill the wall with an SDS 6x110 drill bit and, after having cleaned them with a brush, place in the holes of the nylon expansion plugs with diameter 6.

5. Cut the profiles for depth measurement with special scissors for aluminum and attach them with 4.2x13 flat head teks to those placed on the perimeter of the hole and on the wall profile at the height of the holes previously made. This will create the internal skeleton of the niche.

6. On the profiles, attach the pre-shaped slabs with 3.5x25 self-tapping screws with the help of a drill driver with depth adjustment to cover all sides of the niche.

7. Now proceed with the grouting of the joints and the heads of the screws and affix the micro-perforated paper to the corners by bending it with the fingers at 90 degrees after wetting it.

8. Then wait for the grout to dry and if necessary, pass a second coat (see the article on the grouting and follow the instructions).

9. Sand the whole with a manual grinder removing the excess of grout present and flattening any differences in the work.

10. It is now time to proceed to decorate and paint the newly created niche.

IN BOSS ON THE WALL:

1. Draw the project on the wall with a pencil to define the lines of the niche and draw the depth to be obtained on the ground.

Note: it is advisable to make a niche of at least 10 cm and not less.

2. Report the measurements on the aluminum profiles and cut the profiles for the measurement of the depth and height of the niche with specific scissors for aluminum.

3. Then fix the ground guide with a double-sided tape and place the same guide also on the ceiling with specific steel plugs.

Note: apply the ceiling guide to the ground guide, checking the result with a plumb line or a laser.

4. Fix the uprights to the wall using wall plugs and use 4.2x13 flat head teks to join the two profiles (guide and upright) to the base.

Note: make sure that the whole frame is leveled with the help of a magnetic level with vials.

5. With a professional meter take the measurements of the internal and external walls, of the upper and lower part of the structure and bring them back onto the plasterboard slabs so as to create rectangles which will then be applied on each side of the niche.

6. Attach the pre-shaped slabs to the profiles with 3.5x25 self-tapping screws with the help of a drill driver with depth adjustment to cover all sides of the niche.

Easily transform the niche into a bookcase.

At least 10 cm deep, the niche can be transformed into a bookcase.

• Obtain wooden or glass shelves and shelf brackets.

Note: it will be possible to make our shelves also with the plasterboard following the instructions of the special guide.

• After taking measurements with a professional meter, mark with a construction pencil, on the inside wall of the niche, where the brackets will be fixed.

• Screw the brackets to the inside wall of the niche making holes above the points first marked with a pencil.

• Place the shelves on the shelf brackets and the bookshelf will be ready.
