Guide install led spotlights in the plasterboard

One of the main processes required in plasterboard works is certainly the insertion of LED spotlights in false ceilings or counter walls.

Here are easy step-by-step instructions for installing LED spotlights in plasterboard:

Precautions:

• Turn off the main switch of the light panel and keep it off for the duration of the intervention;

• Calculate well how many LED spotlights to insert so as not to overload the entire electrical system;

Preparation and measurements:

• Lay on the floor, to protect the flooring, corrugated cardboard and cover cloths or, alternatively, felt cloth;

• Outline on a sheet of paper and then transfer to the wall with a construction pencil, helping yourself with the measurements with a professional tape measure, a positioning scheme of the LED spotlights by calculating well dimensions, centimeters and distances, in order to avoid installation errors or areas with more light compared to others;

• Use a metal detector to calculate the exact position of the cables in the false ceiling or in the false wall;

Installation:

• With the help of a screwdriver drill with depth adjustment and with an adjustable hole saw applied to it, proceed to create the holes for inserting the LED spotlights according to their size. Note: if the spotlights are square, proceed with cutting with a hacksaw from plasterboard;

• Center the drill bit on the point indicated in pencil on the false ceiling or on the wall and make the hole;

• Take the LED spotlight and lay the frame inside the hole;

• With the clips fix the frame of the LED spotlight on the slab;

• Connect everything to the electrical system using the appropriate cables;

Verification and finishing:

• Activate the main switch again to check the exact functioning of the system;

• If the lights do not work, repeat the operation paying more attention to the connection of the cables;

Grouting:

• Now proceed, with a professional spatula, to grouting all the necessary areas around the holes;

• Then wait for the grout to dry and if necessary pass a second coat (see article on grouting and follow the instructions).

• Sand everything with a manual grinder by removing the excess grout present and flattening any discrepancies in the work.

Curiosity:

The LED spotlights on the market often have a sort of frame that remains external to the slab and covers any imperfections in the holes, thus avoiding the grouting phase.
