What are flush-mounted skirting boards for plasterboard

Unlike the classic skirting boards whose main function was to protect the lower part of the wall from knocks and knocks, the flush skirting boards basically have only an aesthetic function to give continuity to the wall or to offer innovative furnishing solutions.

Their main characteristic is precisely the fact of remaining "hidden" in the wall and, therefore, "drawing" the surface of the wall itself.

What are

The flush-mounted skirting boards are presented as aluminum profiles placed on the wall by mechanical or chemical fixing.

These profiles are then linked together by special connection joints that remain invisible and allow the joint even in the presence of stairs or corners using special accessories.

Mounting surfaces

The flush-mounted skirting boards can be mounted both on masonry and on plasterboard.

• Masonry: it is the most difficult situation as it is necessary to prepare the wall break-in for the insertion of the baseboard. This is why it is easier to provide for the insertion of the flush skirting board from the construction phase of the wall on masonry walls, rather than intervening on an already plastered wall.

• Plasterboard: in this case everything is really simpler because the flush skirting board profile will have to be fixed directly on the structure that supports the plasterboard wall and in the upper part of the profile there is a sort of "track" that perfectly accommodates the thickness of a slab ( 12.5 'mm).

Mounting system

• On masonry: create the recess for housing the profile and then proceed with fixing it to the wall using a structural chemical anchor or mechanically with special anchors.

• On plasterboard: fix the metal profile using specific screws directly on the wall structure. Use the protruding part of the profile as a starting guide for positioning the slabs on the wall.

Advantages of a flush skirting board

1. Harmony and linearity of the rooms: the absence of thicknesses and raised profiles allows for a perfectly flat wall.

2. Cleaning: since there are no protrusions or protrusions, the dust cannot settle.

3. Freedom: the absence of protrusions allows the furniture to be placed in any position and in adherence to the wall, avoiding the presence of cracks between the furniture and the wall.

4. Fantasy: the possibility of backlighting the skirting profile with the insertion of an LED light allows you to create real works of art.

5. Safety and precision: some profiles provide for the possibility of passing small cables inside them, avoiding that these remain uncovered, creating dangers especially for the youngest.

How much do flush skirting boards cost

The average purchase price (only material without labor) of a profile of this type varies from € 25.00 to € 40.00 depending on the type, external finish and characteristics.

FREQUENT QUESTIONS:

Can I do this DIY work?

Yes, it is possible but since this type of intervention is very delicate, the advice is to contact a highly specialized company that can help you.

Can I change my baseboard with an invisible flush wall?

Yes, it is possible, but the operation will be complicated and expensive. In fact, one of the prerogatives of this product is its installation before finishing the plastering.

However, there are two solutions for working on a finished wall:

• Break the wall in the lower part and create the housing for the profile, being careful to use the plaster then for the finish.

• Cover the masonry wall with the plasterboard (either in adherence or by creating a structure) so that the invisible baseboard profile is one with the plasterboard itself.

Why should I install an invisible flush skirting board?

For all the valid reasons listed above. In particular we want to report some situations:

• illuminate a corridor or staircase that is also an escape route by signaling the way out with the LED skirting board.

• in specific environments (such as schools or hospitals) hide the electric current wires to avoid contact with them.
