Sound insulation regulation
It is not always easy to determine which acoustic requirements are necessary in order to have optimal sound insulation.
The D.P.C.M. 5-12-1997 serves precisely to clarify being the reference document in the Italian law for building acoustics.
Technically written by ANIT (National Association of Thermal and Acoustic Insulation), the document defines the services that the buildings must have in relation to:
• Isolation from noise between different real estate units
• Insulation against external noise
• Insulation against impact noise
• Sound insulation of continuous and discontinuous systems.
• Reverberation time (for classrooms and school gyms).
The services must be verified on site, once the building is completed.
The D.P.C.M. 5/12/1997 also identifies the living areas as follows:
1. Category A: buildings used as residences or similar;
2. Category B: buildings used for offices and similar;
3. Category C: buildings used as hotels, pensions and similar activities;
4. Category D: buildings used as hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and similar;
5. Category E: buildings used for school activities at all levels and similar;
6. Category F: buildings used for recreational or religious activities or similar;
7. Category G: buildings used for commercial or similar activities;
