Plasterboard veil guide

Here are easy step-by-step instructions for making a plasterboard "veil":

Create the structure:

• Lay on the floor, to protect the flooring, corrugated cardboard and cover cloths or, alternatively, felt cloth;

• Outline on a sheet of paper and then transfer to the wall with a construction pencil, helping with the measurements with a professional tape measure, a positioning scheme of the plasterboard veil by calculating dimensions and centimeters well, in order to avoid laying errors;

• Measure the height of the veil starting from the ceiling and on the vertical wall draw the line on which to position the "u" guide from where the veil will start;

• With a spirit level, check that the traced line is regularly aligned and then fix the metal guide to the wall with special nylon @ 6 dowels (the dowels must be placed about 40 cm from each other);

• Now measure the depth of the veil starting from the wall and draw a line on the ceiling on which to place, with the steel dowels (the dowels must be placed 40 cm apart), the other "u" guide where the veil will then end;

Coverage of the structure:

• On the ceiling guide, fix with a black 3.5x25 nail tip phosphated screws (positioned about 1 cm from the edges and about 30 cm from each other) a plasterboard sheet cut to size;

• On the lower internal edge of the sheet just fixed, position another "u" guide with the recess facing the wall, always using 3.5x25 black phosphated screws with nail tip (positioned at about 1 cm from the edges and at 30 cm about each other);

• Now insert "c" uprights in the wall guide and in the one just fixed on the slab, positioning them at a distance of 50-60 cm from each other;

• Fasten the uprights to the guides with 4.2x13 imitation washer teks screws creating a sort of metal mesh;

• Complete the work by closing the lower part of the structure with a sheet of plasterboard;

• Strengthen the newly created veil by positioning, with the use of the black phosphated screws 3.5x25 nail tip, the 30x30 metal corner protectors on the external corners of the plasterboard sheets;

Grouting:

• Now proceed, with a professional spatula, to grouting all the joints and the heads of the screws;

• Then wait for the grout to dry and if necessary pass a second coat (see article on grouting and follow the instructions).

• Sand everything with a manual grinder by removing the excess grout present and flattening any discrepancies in the work.

Decoration and fantasy:

• Now that the veil is ready we can create holes for the positioning of spotlights or lamps proceeding with a professional adjustable cup cutter;

• Now brush with a brush a layer of fixative;

• All that remains is to proceed to decorate and paint the veil just made, leaving room for imagination.

Curiosity

As already mentioned above, it is also possible to create curved veils using instead of straight "U" guides, deformable "vertebra guide" profiles and flexible 6 mm plasterboard sheets.
